Join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research team focused on advancing nanomaterial film engineering for integrated gas sensing devices. You will explore how deposition process parameters affect film architecture and, in turn, sensor performance and reliability. This role offers the chance to work on impactful projects that support environmental monitoring, industrial safety, healthcare, and smart infrastructure.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Investigate how deposition process parameters influence film architecture on MEMS and miniaturized substrates
  • Engineer and tailor film architectures, such as thickness gradients, porosity, connectivity, hierarchical structures, multi-layer stacks, functional or catalytic over-layers, and patterned films for sensing
  • Benchmark and compare deposition techniques, including flame aerosol deposition, aerosol jet printing, inkjet printing, spray or aerosol-based coating, and related approaches
  • Establish process-architecture-performance relationships by linking film morphology and interfaces to sensor sensitivity, selectivity, response and recovery, drift, stability, and power consumption
  • Integrate sensing films into MEMS devices, considering packaging, electrical interfacing, and robustness under real-world conditions
  • Characterize and test sensors, including calibration, repeatability, humidity and interference effects, aging, and statistical evaluation across sensor batches
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams in materials science, microfabrication, chemistry, device physics, and modeling
  • Prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations to share research findings

Was du mitbringst

  • PhD in mechanical or process engineering, materials science, micro or nano engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, or a closely related field
  • Experience in thin-film engineering, nanomaterial deposition, or micro/nano-fabrication research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Preferred: Experience with one or more of the following: flame aerosol synthesis or deposition, aerosol jet printing, inkjet printing, spray coating, electrophoretic deposition, or similar methods
  • Preferred: Experience with film architecture characterization on microstructured substrates, such as SEM/FIB-SEM, AFM, profilometry, ellipsometry, XRD, Raman, XPS, porosity metrics, or image analysis
  • Preferred: Experience with chemoresistive gas sensing and/or automated gas test infrastructure (flow and humidity control, multiplexing)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with MEMS handling and integration, including chip carriers, wire bonding, thermal management, and reliability testing
  • Preferred: Experience with reliability or stability testing and statistical analysis of repeatability across batches
